Located in Lake Union, the Museum of History & Industry MOHAI provides visitors with a diverse history of the Puget Sound region. It houses thousands of historical objects, including artifacts, photographs, manuscripts, and maps. The Museum of History & Industry MOHAI is seeking a Chief of Exhibits and Interpretive Services. This position will be responsible for advancing the strategic goals of the organization by developing, implementing, and monitoring a comprehensive interpretive plan. In addition, this person will lead development of the MOHAI’s core exhibits and related programs. He or she will serve as the lead creative director for key interpretive projects and work closely with the department team, other museum stakeholders, and the community to make sure that the Museum’s mission and vision are reflected in the museum’s outreach and interpretive efforts.
The Museum of History & Industry exhibits are spread across three floors. The top floor features the Seattle Maritime History Gallery, which features exhibits and temporary displays that have been curated by the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society. The museum also offers a third floor exhibit, the MOHAI Gallery, which features collaborative projects with community partners.
The museum’s collection includes more than four million historic photographs. It includes photographs and objects of the maritime and aviation industries. The museum also has a large collection of nautical equipment and period clothing. Other collections include the Josef Scaylea Collection, Car Tolman Collection, and Milkie Studio Collection. The museum has a strong collection of Alaskan items.
