In Short

The 20-Level Curriculum is the structured progression that every artist follows at Beauty Angels Academy USA, built by Amanda Banks, an International Grand Master Permanent Makeup Trainer and former AAM Board Member who has personally performed and supervised over 10,000 treatments and trained artists across 100+ countries. The curriculum carries an artist from foundations, skin theory, color theory, and stroke fundamentals, through microblading, powder, and combination technique, and on toward grandmaster-level judgment, one level at a time. It teaches the Banks Method in order, so judgment is built rather than crammed, and it runs in both the live and online programs with a 6-month mentorship after. Apply for training to learn which level fits where you are as an artist.

Founded and led by Amanda Banks, International Grand Master Permanent Makeup Artist and former American Academy of Micropigmentation Board Member. Every artist at Eastside Microblading & Beauty is personally trained by Amanda.

The Curriculum

Why training in twenty levels beats cramming a weekend

The 20-Level Curriculum is the backbone of every program at Beauty Angels Academy USA, and it exists because skill in permanent makeup is built in order, not crammed into a weekend. Amanda Banks designed it from the way she actually learned to work on tens of thousands of clients. She is an International Grand Master Permanent Makeup Trainer and a former AAM Board Member, she has personally performed and supervised over 10,000 treatments, and she has trained artists across 100+ countries, so the curriculum reflects how a real career is built, level by level. I always joke that 95 out of 100 training programs will fail you, and one reason is that they collapse a whole craft into one to three days and call it done.

The curriculum moves an artist from the foundations through to grandmaster-level technique. Early levels build skin theory, color theory, sanitation, and stroke fundamentals. Middle levels build the core techniques of the Banks Method, microblading, powder, and combination work, on real skin with feedback. Higher levels build the judgment to read any skin, design from the face’s own symmetry, and correct work that healed wrong. Each level earns the next, so you always know where you are and what comes after.

You do not become a grandmaster in a weekend. You build it one level at a time, on real skin, with honest feedback, until the judgment is your own.

Amanda Banks, Grand Master Trainer

How the 20-Level Curriculum is built:

  • Foundations first: skin theory, color theory, sanitation, and stroke fundamentals
  • Core technique next: microblading, powder, and combination work on real skin
  • Advanced judgment after: reading any skin type, face design, and correcting prior work
  • Grandmaster-level technique at the top, taught the way Amanda works on her own clients

The curriculum runs in both the live and online programs, and it continues into a 6-month mentorship that corrects your work after you certify. Because it is built in order, the levels carry over if you start online and add live days later, or the reverse. We are honored to walk an artist through it from the first stroke, and we treat it as the lifetime relationship it is.

The Curriculum

The progression of the 20-Level Curriculum

The 20-Level Curriculum is taught in four stages, each building on the one before. Here is how an artist moves from the first stroke toward grandmaster-level technique.

1

Foundations

The early levels build the ground every artist stands on: skin theory, color theory, sanitation, and stroke fundamentals. You learn how skin behaves, how pigment lives in it, and how to work safely, before you ever touch a client. These levels are where the Banks Method begins.

2

Core technique on real skin

The middle levels move you onto real skin with the core techniques of the Banks Method, starting with microblading hair strokes and building toward powder and combination work. Each technique is practiced with feedback until your results heal natural and consistent, not just once but reliably.

3

Advanced judgment

The higher levels build the judgment that separates a grandmaster from a technician: reading any skin type and adjusting, designing a shape from the face’s own symmetry, choosing color and depth for how a result ages, and correcting work that healed wrong. This is where technique becomes artistry.

4

Grandmaster-level technique and mentorship

The top levels teach the technique the way Amanda works on her own clients, and the 6-month mentorship carries that standard onto your real client work after you certify. You keep submitting work and getting feedback until the grandmaster-level judgment is your own. This is a lifetime relationship.

Course completion

"You build it one level at a time"

If you have ever finished a fast course and felt like you skipped from nothing to a certificate without ever building real skill, the missing piece was structure. A craft this precise cannot be learned out of order. You cannot design a brow from a face’s symmetry before you can read skin, and you cannot read skin from a slide in a packed weekend room.

The 20-Level Curriculum gives you that structure. Foundations first, core technique on real skin next, advanced judgment after, grandmaster-level technique at the top, each level earning the next. You always know where you are and what comes after, and you never skip the steps that make the later work hold up on real clients.

And because the curriculum continues into a 6-month mentorship, the higher levels are corrected on your own client work until the judgment becomes your own. I always joke that 95 out of 100 training programs will fail you, and they fail because they collapse the levels into a weekend. The 20-Level Curriculum is the opposite, and we are honored to walk every artist through it from the first stroke to the last.

The other thing the levels give you is honesty about where you stand. In a weekend class, everyone leaves with the same certificate whether their strokes are ready or not, and the artist has no real way to know what they still cannot do. The curriculum removes that guesswork. You know which level you have earned, which one comes next, and exactly what you need to demonstrate to reach it. That clarity is its own kind of confidence, because you are never pretending to a skill you have not built, and you are never stuck wondering why your results are not holding up. You can see the path, you can see your place on it, and you can see the grandmaster work waiting at the top.

I had a wonderful experience with Zara! I had been wanting to do my eyebrows for quite a while but was very scared of them getting ruined or looking too much like make up. Zara was very professional and explained what she would do in detail, she answered all questions and more importantly she made me feel reassured. I loooove my new eyebrows!!! They looks perfect and natural. I'm so happy I found Zara after doing so much search!!

What an amazing experience! I've been thinking about getting my eyebrows microbladed for quite some time now, but as a man, I wasn't sure where to start, and I wasn't comfortable getting it done at first. However, everyone at Eastside Microblading made this such a smooth, amazing, and life-changing experience. I did a lot of research on other places, but what made this place great was that they made sure I had everything I needed before making this decision and that I was completely comfortable with it. They didn't pressure me at all, like some other places did. They also sent me before, after, and healed photos of other male clients they had worked with, which made the process much easier for me. Zara, who did my eyebrows, did a fantastic job! I didn't want my eyebrows to be too dark or noticeable, and she made sure of that. I can't express how much I love the results. It's added a lot more confidence to my day-to-day life, and it's made me feel great overall. The process itself hurt a little bit (I thought I had a higher pain tolerance but I guess not) and the healing process was smooth. I did not have any dry or flakiness in my eyebrows. I can't recommend this place enough. Thank you to all the staff and especially to Zara for making this happen!

I would give Zara 10 stars if I could! I was alwavs hesitant about getting permanent makeup because I'm very particular when it comes to these things I had my eyebrows and lash ine done by Zara back in June, and I was so happy with the results that I decided to go back in September for a lip blush to restore my lip shape and add a ittle natural tint I wanted to wait until my lips were fully healed before leaving this review because I wanted tc see the final results first I couldn't be happier! I feel sc much more confident now. I don't wear makeup every day, and all I wanted was a very natural enhancement. Zara understood exactly what I wanted and delivered beautiful results Now I can get ready for work without needing daily makeup and my face still looks fresh natural, and beautiful. Nothing looks overdone, and it doesn't even look like I'm wearing makeup I've already recommended Zara to all my friends and coworkers Ifyou're looking for beautiful natural-looking permanent makeup, this is definitely the place to go. Zara is amazing, and I highly recommend her!

I have to give a major shoutout to Zara, Amanda, and the entire team at Eastside Microblading! I’ve worked with Zara for permanent makeup on my eyebrows, and she has absolutely knocked it out of the park every single time. She approaches everything she does with so much care and intentionality. She really takes the time to listen, understand what you’re looking for, and make sure you feel comfortable and confident throughout the entire experience. I’ve also had the opportunity to see Zara for multiple cryo body sculpting sessions, and they are such a treat! She is incredibly thorough and makes the whole experience feel relaxing and enjoyable. Zara, Amanda, and the entire team are always wonderful about answering my questions, and you can tell they really care about giving every client an amazing experience. I always leave feeling well taken care of and looking forward to my next visit. If you’re considering permanent makeup or looking for a relaxing way to treat yourself with a cryo session, I highly recommend checking them out. They truly go above and beyond! ❤️

I was actually the person to have the treatment by Zara, not my husband, lol! I was so pleased with the results of my lip and eyebrow treatments, truly done by a very talented artist! Zara was quite a perfectionist, which I appreciated!

I LOVE my permanent makeup. Both Zara and Amanda are exceptional tattoo artists. Thanks to Amanda, I have attractive and natural looking brows, and thanks to Zara, I never have to wear eyeliner, and my lips have the shape and definition that I had in my 20’s. And you can’t tell that they are tattoos! The process itself isn’t pain free but it’s very tolerable. And the healing goes by quickly. I didn’t have to hide in the house while I healed. If you want the freedom of looking naturally good with just mascara and lip gloss, I recommend that you make appointments with Zara and Amanda!

When I decided to get into the beauty business, inspired by my own Microblading experience as a customer, I did a thorough search for potential trainers and schools. I went through plenty of prospective trainers, but it was Amanda and Beauty Angels that stood out to me. Beyond Amanda's obvious winning personality and positive attitude, the details of the Beauty Angels Academy intrigued me. While a lot of Microblading schools and trainers offered a few days of instruction and then left you to sink or swim, only Amanda and Beauty Angels offered 20 levels of curriculum through online training, which can take up to 6 months, in addition to the live training. At first I was a bit hesitant because I was impatient to get my business up and running and getting certified in a few days seemed pretty enticing! But the more I researched the Beauty Angels training and the more I researched Amanda on Facebook, Google, and Instagram (my inner spy... or stalker!), I became more and more convinced that she was the right trainer for me. I read every review she's ever gotten in her life (ok... maybe not!) and that, along with the success of her former students, sealed it for me. And I was not disappointed! Once I attended her Microblading course in March, I knew for sure I had made the right decision. Amanda is so calm and thorough in her explanations. She breaks everything down so that you can absorb it. But she's no pushover and is not going to pass you unless you produce good work. For example, for the very first level of the online training, I had to hand-draw a pair of brows. I submitted my first attempt: rejected. I submitted my second attempt: rejected. I took a deep breath, took Amanda's advice from each rejection to heart and finally passed on my third attempt! I have little doubt that a lot of other trainers wouldn't have been so firm in holding their standards but Amanda will draw the best out of you whether you like it or not! But it wasn't all just criticism. Whenever I submitted work, Amanda would be sure to tell me what I did RIGHT in addition to pointing out where I could do better. It was those bits of praise that helped keep my confidence up when I wasn't sure I could do it. Another great thing about Amanda is that she's always just a text away, as she will respond to any of your questions even on the weekends or when she's on vacation. That's dedication right there! I ended up passing my online training in June and opened up my own Microblading business soon after. Even after I officially graduated the course, Amanda still made herself available to answer questions and has been very helpful with little tidbits of knowledge, like what ink colors/mixes to use on various clients' skin colors or advice on business procedures (which is all new to me! I've never run a business before!). She is a person with a heart of gold and is very geniune about wanting to help others. I know she could make more money just performing Microblading instead of instructing others but she enjoys giving back and helping others make the journey she has made to the top of the mountain. I'm still not there, but I am so happy I have had Amanda guiding me along the way and I know I'll get there one day!

Honestly Amanda is just overall an amazing human being. I took my microblading/shading online/live course with her and I’m so thankful to have found this academy and also for someone like her to be so close to where I live and be able to learn from the best master trainer! She’s so supportive and motivational! I love learning from her so much that I recommended all my friends that are thinking about taking a microblading course to come to her! I’m also going to be returning for 3 more courses and not going anywhere else! She’s the best at what she does whether it’s microblading people or being a master trainer! She knows her stuff and isn’t afraid to share all the information she has learned throughout the years with her students! Thank you being so amazing Amanda! ❤️

I highly recommend the Beauty Angels Advanced Microblading and Shading course from Amanda! My upper strokes were a hot mess before I took the class. She worked with me and gave me great constructive criticism. Now my upper strokes are beautiful. Don’t expect to pass every level with your first submission, listen to the instructions given to you and apply it to future submissions. Amanda is a great instructor and your work will be far superior when you finish compared to when you started.

Training Through the Curriculum

Working through the 20-Level Curriculum

The 20-Level Curriculum is taught inside both the live and online programs, and your starting level depends on your experience. Enrollment and tuition are confirmed when you apply. Training through the curriculum gives you:

  • Foundations in skin theory, color theory, sanitation, and stroke fundamentals
  • Core technique on real skin: microblading, powder, and combination work
  • Advanced judgment: reading any skin type, face design, and correction
  • Grandmaster-level technique taught the way Amanda works on her own clients
  • A 6-month mentorship that corrects the higher levels on your real client work

Because the curriculum is built in order, your levels carry over whether you train live, online, or both. Apply for training to confirm which level fits where you are as an artist.

Common Questions

Curriculum FAQ

What is the 20-Level Curriculum?+

The 20-Level Curriculum is the structured progression every artist follows at Beauty Angels Academy USA. It carries you from foundations, skin theory, color theory, and stroke fundamentals, through the core techniques of the Banks Method, and on toward grandmaster-level judgment, one level at a time. Amanda Banks built it from the way she learned to work on over 10,000 clients, so it reflects how a real career is built.

Do I have to start at level one?+

Not always. Brand-new artists start at the foundations, but working artists can enter at a higher level that matches their experience. The team reviews where you are when you apply and confirms the right entry point, so you are neither repeating what you already know nor skipping the steps that make later work hold up.

How long does the curriculum take?+

It depends on your starting level and the pace you train at, especially on the online path where you set your own schedule. The curriculum is built to be learned in order rather than rushed, and it continues into a 6-month mentorship after the formal levels, so the standard carries onto your real client work. The team gives you a realistic timeline when you apply.

Is the curriculum the same live and online?+

Yes. The 20-Level Curriculum runs through both the live courses and the online certification, teaching the same Banks Method in the same order. The difference is delivery: live training is hands-on in the room on real skin, while online is self-paced with mentor review of your own work. Because the curriculum is identical, your levels carry over between paths.

What does grandmaster-level technique mean?+

It means the judgment to create natural results that age beautifully on any skin type, the way Amanda Banks does on her own clients. The top levels of the curriculum teach reading skin, designing from the face’s own symmetry, choosing pigment for how it ages, and correcting prior work. It is the difference between an artist who can copy a routine and one who can handle whatever walks in the door.

Does the curriculum include certification?+

Yes. You earn certification in the Banks Method by reaching the levels of the 20-Level Curriculum your program covers, demonstrated on real work rather than attendance. The certificate reflects the levels you reached and the standard you can hold on real clients, taught by an International Grand Master Permanent Makeup Trainer and former AAM Board Member.

Can I keep advancing after I certify?+

Yes. Because the curriculum is built in levels, there is always a higher one to reach, and many artists return to advance their technique after they have been working. The 6-month mentorship keeps you connected to Amanda and the team after you certify, and the relationship continues from there. This is a lifetime relationship, not a one-time class.
