What is normal as your brows heal

Healing follows a predictable arc, and knowing it keeps you from panicking at the bold or flaky stage. For the first day or two the brows look sharp and dark. Around days three to five they darken further and may feel tight, then begin to flake as the skin’s surface renews. By the end of week two most of the flaking is done, and the color can look surprisingly light. Do not judge your result here. The true tone surfaces by about week four as the deeper pigment settles.

The aftercare rules that actually matter

The studio gives you specific instructions for your skin at your appointment, but the core rules hold for everyone:

  • Keep them clean and dry. Avoid soaking the brows, long showers, swimming, saunas, and heavy sweating for the first two weeks.
  • Do not pick or scratch the flaking. Pulling a flake early can pull pigment with it and leave a gap. Let it shed on its own.
  • Skip active skincare near the brows. No retinol, acids, or exfoliants on or around the brows while they heal — these fade fresh pigment fast.
  • Protect from sun. Sun exposure is one of the biggest causes of premature fading, both during healing and for the life of your brows.
  • Apply only what your artist gives you. Follow the studio’s aftercare product guidance rather than improvising.

Pigment, depth, saturation, and technique are all chosen for how they will look in 12 to 18 months, not just on healing day. Aftercare is your half of that.

Aftercare is one of the levers that decides where your result lands in the 12 to 18 month range. Sun exposure without protection, active exfoliating skincare, and heavy sweating all shorten the timeline. Gentle care and sun protection keep your brows in the upper end of the range.

How long does microblading take to heal?+

Can I get my eyebrows wet after microblading?+

Why do my brows look so dark after microblading?+
